MERRIGONG THEATRE COMPANY IN ASSOCIATION WITH UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG PRESENT A SPORT FOR JOVE PRODUCTION
Join an exceptional cast, under the direction of Damien Ryan, for a tale of music and magic at Theatre Under the Stars in February 2027.
Pack a picnic, and settle in under the stars, as once again, University of Wollongong’s Kooloobong Oval is transformed into a fantastical island of fairy lights and wonder.
On a remote, enchanted island, the exiled Miranda has built a life for herself in the shadow of the powerful magician Prospero’s ‘art’ – mastery of the elements and desperation to hold the past at bay. But every storm will break.
The Tempest is a play about family, about memory and forgiveness, about captivity and freedom, and the impossible question of what we do when the world we have built can no longer hold us.
Beneath an open sky, Sport for Jove brings this deeply beautiful play into the elements themselves. Actors and audience are shipwrecked together under the musical spell of Ariel – the spirit of the air itself. Filled with nobles, monsters, drunks, lovers and ghosts, The Tempest asks whether we ever truly can let go of the past… but promises extraordinary discoveries when we finally do.
