Education | Second Age Project

The Second Age Project takes its name from Jacques famous “all the world’s a stage” monologue from Shakespeare’s As You Like It

The Second Age Project offers exciting training and performance opportunities to enthusiastic and talented young performers in their 'second age' (school-age)!

In 2021, The Second Age Project offers extra curricular acting training, rehearsal and performance opportunities. The Second Age Project now offers students the opportunity to take part In-Person and Online!

Following the successful implementation of online classes in 2020, we are excited to extend this online offering in 2021 for regional young actors or those unable to participate in our in-person production for other reasons.

Terms 1 & 2 Acting Training:

Exciting, fun and challenging acting training for high school students, 2 hours (Zoom) or 2.5 hours (In-Person) each weekend during the NSW public school term. Students work with professional directors from Sport for Jove on Shakespeare-inspired monologues and scene-work culminating in a showcase performance at the end of the term for friends and family.

The Second Age Project Summer Season Show:

Students send their auditions in Term 3 and take part in rehearsals and performance throughout Term 4 of a thrilling one-hour play drawing from Shakespeare's greatest texts. Rehearsals culminate in a performance that plays as a curtain-raiser to SFJ's mainstage shows for the annual Summer Season. Auditions are to help with casting and creation of the show - all applicants are accepted until capacity is reached (places are limited to 18 in person, 10 online maximum for quality of experience).

The Second Age Project draws its title from the famous speech in Shakespeare's play As You Like It, beginning:

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women, merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts,

His acts being seven ages..."

The  Second Age is the school child with 'shining morning face'.
