Shannan Ely | Biography

Shannan is an emerging director with a love of all things political theatre and classic texts. Shannan graduated in 2017 from NIDA with an MFA (Directing). Directing credits include The Crucible (2013), Terminus (2014), and The Taming of the Shrew (2015 | NUTS), A Good Egg (Short+Sweet | 2015), and The Double Disguise (2015 | Juvenilia Press/Creative Practice Lab). ‘The Bacchae’ (NIDA 2017, and Adelaide Fringe Festival 2018), and ‘Dancing Doesn’t Count’ (Sydney Fringe Festival 2018). Shannan has Assistant Directed for the New Theatre’s ‘Marat/Sade’ (2016, dir. Barry French), NIDA’s, ‘Realism’ (2017, dir. Jessica Arthur), and Sport for Jove’s ‘Moby Dick’ (2018, dir. Adam Cook). 

In 2019, Shannan directed ‘i (love) you’ at the Old 505 Theatre, and produced the 360 degree immersive work, ‘Muse’ with her production company ‘The Revolt Collective’. The Revolt was started in 2018 and Shannan continues to run this organisation as Artistic Director.
